We have been doing this for 10 years now, 9 months working and earning money in Switzerland, 3 months spending money in Argentina. A life in two worlds.

 Es ist wieder so weit, der Flug nach Argentinien steht an, und damit der Wechsel von unserem Alltag in der Schweiz in den Argentinien Modus. Von einem Leben, welches in grossen Teilen fremdbestimmt ist zu einem Leben, welches wir fast ausschliesslich frei nach unseren Träumen und Ideen gestalten. Vom Funktionier- in den Experimentiermodus.

 

Seit 10 Jahren machen wir das nun schon, 9 Monate arbeiten und Geld verdienen in der Schweiz, 3 Monate Geld verbauen in Argentinien. Ein Leben in zwei Welten. Mittlerweile haben wir Routine darin: In der Schweiz Freunde und Familie verabschieden, Rechnungen bezahlen, Einkäufe für Argentinien erledigen, packen, fliegen. Das ist der einfachere Teil.

 

In Argentinien wissen wir jeweils nicht so genau, was uns erwartet, das ist jedes Mal eine Überraschung, denn Argentinien ist  nicht so stabil und berechenbar wie die Schweiz. Nur schon der ganze Zahlungsverkehr ist eine Herausforderung für sich und wird geprägt von der aktuellen Politik des Landes. Bei einer Inflation von rund 50% lässt sich die Regierung alle möglichen Massnahmen einfallen, um die Wirtschaftskrise zu stoppen. Für Ausländer ist es daher manchmal sehr schwierig, überhaupt an Geld zu kommen. Am einfachsten bringt man Bargeld mit, dann ist man unabhängig von den wirtschaftlichen Kapriolen.

 

Auf der Insel haben wir das grosse Glück, dass unsere Nachbarn Santiago und Nelly zu unserem Land schauen, wenn wir nicht da sind. Aber die beiden sind nicht mehr die jüngsten, irgendwann werden sie nicht mehr die Energie dazu haben. Bis jetzt haben wir immer alles tadellos vorgefunden, doch wir wissen, dass dies keine Selbstverständlichkeit ist und sich jederzeit ändern kann. Wir hoffen noch immer, dass sich uns irgendwann ein paar Gleichgesinnte anschliessen und Babaluca das ganze Jahr durch belebt ist. Das würde vieles erleichtern und noch viel mehr ermöglichen.

 

Dieses Jahr sind wir besonders gespannt, wie wir unser Land antreffen werden: Ist auf der Fläche, auf welcher letztes Jahr der Bagger im Einsatz war, in der Zwischenzeit Gras gewachsen? Oder erwartet uns noch immer ein grosses Schlammfeld? Was ist aus den riesigen Asthaufen geworden, die der Bagger hinterlassen hat? Hat der Holzhändler das Holz, welches wir verkauft haben, unterdessen abgeholt? Und wie hat die Stromgesellschaft, welche uns die lang ersehnte Stromleitung gebracht hat, das Grundstück verlassen? Liegen gefällte Bäume quer verstreut herum? Werden wir die ersten Wochen mit Aufräumarbeiten beschäftigt sein oder können wir direkt mit unseren neuen Bauvorhaben beginnen?

 

Fragen über Fragen, welche eine detaillierte vorgängige Planung verunmöglichen. Aber auch daran haben wir uns im Lauf der Jahre gewöhnt: Pläne sind dazu da, über den Haufen geworfen zu werden. Wir haben es noch in keinem Jahr geschafft, alles zu realisieren, was wir uns vorgenommen haben. Das gehört zu unserem Leben in Argentinien dazu, es kommt immer so einiges dazwischen, mit dem wir nicht gerechnet haben. Und trotzdem - oder vielleicht genau deshalb? - lieben wir dieses Land und seine Menschen.  Langweilig wird es nie!

 

In ein paar Tagen werden wir mehr wissen und wieder vor Ort sein. Falls du Babaluca kennen lernen möchtest und evtl. sogar Interesse an einer Mitgestaltung hast, melde dich bei uns!

Una vez más, el vuelo a Argentina está pendiente, y con él el cambio de nuestra vida cotidiana en Suiza a la modalidad Argentina. De una vida determinada en gran parte por otros a una vida que casi exclusivamente modelamos según nuestros sueños e ideas. Del modo funcional al modo experimental.

Llevamos 10 años haciendo esto, 9 meses trabajando y ganando plata en Suiza, 3 meses gastando plata en Argentina. Una vida en dos mundos. Mientras tanto, tenemos la rutina en ello: Despedirse de los amigos y la familia en Suiza, pagar las cuentas, hacer compras para Argentina, empacar, volar. Esta es la parte más fácil.

En Argentina no sabemos exactamente qué esperar, lo que siempre es una sorpresa, porque Argentina no es tan estable y predecible como Suiza. Sólo la totalidad del tráfico de pagos es un desafío en sí mismo y está conformado por la política actual del país. Con una inflación de alrededor del 50%, el gobierno está poniendo en práctica todo tipo de medidas para detener la crisis económica. Por lo tanto, a veces es muy difícil para los extranjeros obtener dinero. La forma más fácil es llevar dinero en efectivo, entonces uno es independiente de las alcaparras económicas.

En la isla tenemos mucha suerte de que nuestros vecinos Santiago y Nelly miren nuestra tierra cuando nosotros no estamos allí. Pero estos dos ya no son los más jóvenes, en algún momento ya no tendrán la energía. Hasta ahora siempre hemos encontrado todo impecable, pero sabemos que esto no es algo natural y que puede cambiar en cualquier momento. Todavía esperamos que algunas personas con ideas afines se unan a nosotros en algún momento y que Babaluca esté animada todo el año. Esto facilitaría muchas cosas y haría mucho más posible.

Este año estamos especialmente emocionados de ver cómo vamos a encontrar a nuestro país: ¿Ha crecido el pasto en la zona donde se utilizó la excavadora el año pasado? ¿O todavía hay un gran campo de barro esperándonos? ¿Qué pasó con los enormes montones de ramas que dejó la excavadora? ¿Ha recogido el maderero la madera que vendimos mientras tanto? ¿Y cómo es que la compañía de electricidad, que nos trajo la línea eléctrica tan esperada, dejó la propiedad? ¿Están los árboles talados esparcidos por toda la tierra? ¿Estaremos ocupados con el trabajo de limpieza durante las primeras semanas o podemos empezar nuestros nuevos proyectos de construcción de inmediato?

Preguntas sobre preguntas, que hacen imposible una planificación detallada de antemano. Pero también nos hemos acostumbrado a esto a lo largo de los años: los planes están ahí para ser lanzados por la borda. En ningún año hemos logrado realizar todo lo que nos propusimos. Esto es parte de nuestra vida en Argentina, siempre hay cosas que surgen que no esperábamos. Y aún así... ¿o tal vez exactamente por eso? - amamos este país y su gente.  ¡Nunca se aburre!

Meanwhile we have routine in it: Saying goodbye to friends and family in Switzerland, paying bills, shopping for Argentina, packing, flying. This is the easier part.

In Argentina we don't know exactly what to expect, which is always a surprise, because Argentina is not as stable and predictable as Switzerland. Only the whole payment traffic is a challenge in itself and is shaped by the current politics of the country. With inflation at around 50%, the government is putting all kinds of measures in place to stop the economic crisis. It is therefore sometimes very difficult for foreigners to obtain money at all. The easiest way is to bring cash with you, then you are independent of the economic capers.

On the island we are very lucky that our neighbours Santiago and Nelly look at our land when we are not there. But these two are not the youngest anymore, at some point they won't have the energy anymore. Until now we have always found everything in perfect conditions, but we know that this is not a matter of course and can change at any time. We still hope that some like-minded people will join us at some point and that Babaluca will be inhabited all year round. This would make a lot of things easier and make a lot more possible.

This year we are especially excited to see how we will meet our country: Has grass grown on the area where the excavator was used last year? Or is there still a large mud field waiting for us? What happened to the huge heaps of branches the excavator left behind? Has the timber dealer picked up the wood we sold in the meantime? And how did the electricity company, which brought us the long awaited power line, leave the property? Are felled trees scattered across the land? Will we be busy with clean-up work for the first few weeks or can we start our new construction projects right away?

Questions upon questions, which make a detailed planning in advance impossible. But we have also got used to this over the years: plans are there to be thrown overboard. In no year have we managed to realize everything we set out to do. This is part of our life in Argentina, there are always things that come up that we didn't expect. And still - or maybe exactly because of that? - we love this country and its people.  It never gets boring!
